Peter Drayton O'Hara, of Sabine Hall, Warsaw, Virginia, died on Wednesday, July 26th, 2017.
He was born June 2nd, 1942, in Englewood, New Jersey to Robert Sydney O'Hara and Katharine Drayton O'Hara. The youngest of three children, he grew up in Englewood attending the Elizabeth Morrow School and The Englewood School for Boys. He was a graduate of Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts and attended Hobart College in Geneva, New York.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Mercer Wellford O’Hara, sons Peter Wellford O’Hara and Matthew Clinton O’Hara (Jenn), grandchildren Marjorie Caroline O’Hara, and Katharine Heaton O’Hara, brother Robert Sydney O'Hara, Jr. (Bonnie) and was predeceased by sister Sally O'Hara Shelly.
Peter spent his entire career in the commodities business, rising to the position of President and Director of C. Czarnikow Sugar Inc. in New York. Upon retirement, he moved from Englewood, New Jersey to Warsaw, Virginia and resided at Sabine Hall.
Peter had a lifelong love of boating and spent many summers on the Great South Bay of New York. He was an active volunteer at his summer community in Point O'Woods, New York, serving both on the Board of Directors and as President of The Club at Point O'Woods for many years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Hillsboro Club in Hillsboro Beach, Florida. Upon retirement, he served on the Board of Directors of Historic Christ Church and Museum in Weems, Virginia.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church in Warsaw, VA on Saturday, August 5th followed by interment and reception at Sabine Hall.
