Obituary for Marjorie Anne "Margie" Weakley (Lowe)

Marjorie Anne "Margie" Weakley (Lowe)
Marjorie “Margie” Anne Lowe Weakley, 85, of Doswell, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on April 23, 2018 surrounded by those she loved. She was born on August 8, 1932 in Richmond, Virginia. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God comforted Marjorie throughout her life and ultimately gave her peace. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Russell and Josephine Williams Lowe of Mechanicsville, Virginia; and brothers, Thomas Edward and Lawrence Russell Lowe, Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Thomas Rhys Weakley, Sr.; twin sister, Margaret Lowe Haley; two children, Michael Thomas Weakley (Elizabeth) and Thomas Rhys Weakley, Jr. (Nancy); three grandchildren, Jason Thomas Weakley (Ashley), Anne Carver Weakley, and Sarah Weakley Sichol (Austin); and precious great-grandchildren, Skylar, Virginia, and Jason Weakley and Rhys Sichol, all in whom she found joy and to whom she was affectionately known as “Nanny”.

After graduating from Glen Allen High School in Henrico County, Marjorie worked for two years as assistant Clerk of the Court for Henrico County and later as secretary to the late Rev. Ira L. Andrews, III, former dean of students at Randolph-Macon College. She taught Sunday school at Cool Spring Baptist Church in Mechanicsville before joining First Baptist Church in Ashland.

Marjorie’s greatest loves were her family and children. Her most enjoyable days were spent reading mystery novels, traveling, and painting nature scenes and portraits. Her exceptional artistic talent also included interior and landscape design.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11 AM at First Baptist Church, 800 Thompson Street, Ashland, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marjorie’s life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Memorial Garden Fund of First Baptist Church, 800 Thompson Street, Ashland, Virginia, 23005 or Hospice of Virginia, 2235 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, Virginia, 23230.
