DAVIS, James E. "Jim," of Farnham, Virginia, died peacefully in his sleep on February 22, 2018. He was born on June 14, 1941, in Haynesville, Virginia, to Lawrence Hall and Leona Packett Davis. He grew up in Warsaw and graduated from Warsaw High School. He studied ornamental horticulture and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in June of 1964. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary. Jim and Mary made their home and raised their family in Sutherland, Virginia, where he was assigned as assistant to the Dinwiddie County Extension agent. He began a successful career with Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company and worked in Petersburg, Va. and later Macon, Ga., until he retired in 1996 and moved home to the Northern Neck. In his retirement years, he was the treasurer of the cemetery committee and a loyal member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Jim was loved by all who knew him...his "snowbird" friends in Vero Beach, Fla.; his friends and family in Dinwiddie, Va. and Macon, Ga.; his Hokie buddies and his friends and family in the Northern Neck. He was possessed with a fun-loving spirit, had a lust for life, and was always the life of the party!
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; his daughter, Malynn and husband, Chuck Unser; his son, Jed and wife, Buffy Davis; his daughter, Amy and husband, Joel Keneipp; his six grandchildren, James and John Thomas Davis, Emi, Davis and Olivia Unser and Daisy McLeod; his brother, Harlan and wife, Jean Davis; his sister, Joanna and husband, Fred Williamson; and a whole CLAN of nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
The family extends their thanks to the "angels" of the Hospice of the Northern Neck and the many friends and family who offered care, prayers and support during Jim's long and valiant fight with cancer.
The family will greet friends at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, in the social hall at Calvary United Methodist Church, Emerton, Va. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at Calvary.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Virginia Baptist Foundation (2828 Emerywood Parkway, Henrico, Va. 23294) "Davis/Packett Scholarship Fund."
