Obituary for Marilyn Scott Booker

Marilyn Scott Booker of Callao died Sunday, August 27, 2017. She was born February 15, 1920 in Cape Charles, VA. She graduated from Cape Charles High School in 1936 and from the University Of Virginia School Of Nursing in 1943. She practiced her profession there until marrying James Motley Booker MD on January 11, 1947. She lived in Lodge, Callao, VA since that date.

Marilyn Booker served her community as an active member in Bethany Baptist Church including the Woman’s Missionary Society and other programs. She recruited nurses for and helped with the Northumberland County Blood Mobile program for thirty-five years. She was also an active member of several medical auxiliaries and the Garden Club of the Northern Neck for many years. She supported her husband’s interest in the Northumberland County Historical Society and continued supporting the Society’s projects after his death. Some of her main enjoyments in later life were the many flowers that family and friends brought, watching the birds and sunsets on the river, and holding her feline friend, George.

Surviving are daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” B. England and husband, Dover of Heathsville, their daughter Amy C. Covington and husband, Josh and daughters Reid and Ellis of Greenville, SC and their son, Andrew Carmichael and wife, Lisa Buckowsky of Richmond; daughter, Katherine “Kitty” B. Cox and husband, Jerry of King William, their daughter, Jenny C. Maloney and husband, Paul of Topping; and daughter, Mary Lynn Booker and friend, Marcie Lewis of King William.

Visitation hours will be Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 5-7 pm at the family home in Lodge. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11 am at Bethany Baptist Church, Callao, VA with interment in the Farnham Baptist Church Cemetery, Farnham, VA.

Memorials may be made to the Farnham Baptist Church Cemetery Endowment Fund, 250 Bunker Hill Road, Farnham, VA 22460.
