Robert W. Phillips, age 88, of Hague, VA died Friday, June 9, 2017. He was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - the only child of Raymond and Gertrude Ware Phillips.

He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. He served the country he loved for 25 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant commander.

Bob and his wife, Emma Sydnor Phillips, moved to Hague from Portsmouth, VA in 1994 and resided in the Sydnor family home place.

Bob was civic minded and was an active member of the Callao and Westmoreland Ruritans and a member of the Kinsale Masonic Lodge. He was also a philanthropist and supported many charities. He is a member of Carmel United Methodist Church in Kinsale, VA and taught Sunday School for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Emma S. Phillips, his step-daughters: Susan L. Burnopp and Amy W. Douglas (Jack); four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a daughter, Charlotte Busacco, of Florida.

Visitation will be held at Carmel United Methodist Church at 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 14th, with funeral service to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
