William Edward (W.E.) Packett, age 87, of Montross, VA passed away on October 6, 2016. W.E. was born on April 30, 1929, in Kilmarnock, VA and grew up in the northern neck of Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kay Moss Packett, his son William Jeffrey Packett of Montross, VA, his daughters Sheryl (Jim) Brown of Montross, VA, Cynthia (Fred) Cidone of Sterling, VA, and Kimberly (Derek) Graff of Leesburg, VA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, his brother Howard (Jane) Packett of Salem, VA and his sister Sue (Karl) Avellar of Ellicott City, MD. W.E. served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He earned his degree in Administration of Justice from American University Washington, DC.
W.E. and Kay raised their four children in Arlington, VA where he joined the Arlington County Police department in 1960. He raised to the rank of Deputy Chief before retiring in 1986. He then left retirement to take a position as Chief Deputy of the Arlington County Sheriff’s office from 1990 until 1996. In 2006, W.E. and Kay moved to Montross where he enjoyed golfing, gardening, and spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends and family at the Welch funeral home, 17546 Kings Highway, Montross, VA from 2-4pm on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Services will be private. The family request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to your favorite charities.
