Obituary for Ralph Delano 'Chip' Elliott Jr.

Ralph Delano ‘Chip’ Elliott, Jr., 51, died Monday, August 29, 2016. Born on February 10, 1965, he was the son of Ms. Sue Waterman Fuerst (Lazer) of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Dr. Ralph D. Elliott, Sr. (Linda) of Clemson, South Carolina.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a son, Dean Delano Elliott of Youngsville, North Carolina; two daughters, Morgan Lee Elliott of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Lauren Elizabeth McCormick of Burlington, Vermont; a step-son, Matthew Ohrvall, who serves in the U.S. Navy; and his long-time loving partner, Cindy Ohrvall of Youngsville, North Carolina.

Ralph, nicknamed “Chip” by his grandmother Elliott, was proud to be the grandson of Louise Packett Elliott and Thomas Dean Elliott of Warsaw, Virginia, and the nephew of John Wesley Elliott of King George, Virginia.

Chip attended Hargrave Military Institute and Vance-Granville Community College. He was a master construction builder. He created things of beauty with wood and leather. He loved the outdoors and hiked many miles of the Appalachian Trail. He hunted fossils and arrowheads and unusual stones; but most of all, he loved animals.

As does most of humanity, Chip believed in and hoped for the existence of God, heaven, and redemption. In this, we all envy him because, now, he knows all the answers.

The family expresses its gratitude to the Richmond County community for opening the doors of its hearts and giving love and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Welcome Grove Baptist Church, 7368 Newland Road, Warsaw, VA 22572 or Warsaw Baptist Church, P. O. Box 756, Warsaw, VA 22572.
