Obituary for Gay Hall Packett

Gay Hall  Packett
Gay Hall Packett, Warsaw, a lifelong resident of Richmond County, passed away on August 19, 2016. She was born on December 20, 1928 to James V. “Bert” Hall and Ethel May Brown of Naylors. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Delano Packett; step-father, Roland B. Davis; and a brother, Wilbur J. Hall. Surviving her are two children, Patricia Packett Pugh (Al) and Ralph Wayne Packett (Terry); her grandchildren, Hillary Pugh Kent, Alyson Pugh, Adam Packett, Ashley Packett, Aaron Packett, Angela Pugh Haas, and Amanda Pugh Preston; her great-grandchildren, Kayla Packett, Trinity Moreno, Jamison Packett, Braden Kent, Truman Kent, Nathaniel Haas, Jetta Ann Haas, Thomas Preston, II, and Eli Preston; and sisters, Rozelle Davis of Tappahannock and Katherine Stout of Warsaw.

Gay was employed by the Selective Service System as Executive Secretary for 25 years and worked in Warsaw, Montross and Tappahannock. After the Draft Boards closed, she served 20 years as a Local Board Member in the Standby Draft System representing Richmond County. She served four years as Litter Coordinator for the county and a term on the Wetlands Board. Gay was an active member of Cobham Park Baptist Church and she was a community volunteer as well. She was the Organizing President of Federal Retiree Chapter 1823 and an Area Vice President; a Life Member and Past President of the Auxiliary to Northern Neck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7167, a past District President and a Life Member of the VFW National Home for Children. She was the Organizing President of Fort Lowry Chapter 2695, United Daughters of the Confederacy. She has served on boards for Farm Bureau and Southern States.

A funeral service will be held at Cobham Park Baptist Church in Warsaw on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Donald Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in the Cobham Park Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW National Home for Children, 3573 South Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827; the Richmond County Fire Department, P. O. Box 626, Warsaw, VA 22572; or the Cobham Park Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 1355, Warsaw, VA 22572.
