Obituary for Betty Mae Richardson (Jones)

Betty Mae Jones Richardson, 87, of Cabin Point, Montross, VA, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016. She grew up in McLean, VA the daughter of the late Ernest W. Jones and Grace G. Jones. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, David Lee Richardson, two brothers, Billy and Buddy Jones, her sister-in-law and best friend Patsy Jones, and a son-in-law, Gary Steele.
She was a member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, a retired nursery school teacher, a member of the Red Hat Club and a devout bird lover, game player and Washington Redskin fan.
She is survived by her son, David L. Richardson, II (Betsy) of Richmond, VA; daughters, Donna R. Dowd (Kenneth) of Fairfax, VA and Dawn R. Steele of Gainesville, VA; brother, Ernest W. Jones, Jr. of Sterling, VA and sister, Bonnie Grace O’Connor (Kris) of Advance, NC. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren (Katie, Amy, Emily, Evan, Anna, Gary, Kathleen, Kelsey, Scott, Frances, Kevin and Adam) and eight great grandchildren (Maya, Delilah, Roslyn, Gary Lee, Selah, Grace, Dallas and Oliver).
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Welch Funeral Home, 17546 Kings Highway, Montross, VA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, 16340 Kings Highway, Montross, VA. Interment will be in the Andrew Chapel Cemetery immediately following the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the dedicated caregivers at Visiting Angels and Riverside Tappahannock Hospice.
