Helen “Nana” Virginia McKenney Allen, 91, of Coles Point, passed away peacefully at Farnham Manor on Saturday, November 14, 2015.
Mrs. Allen was the daughter of the late James and Emma Pauline McKenney. She was predeceased in 2009 by James E .Allen, her beloved husband of 67 years; 14 brothers and sisters, and son-in-law, Eddie McAllister. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lee McAllister of Coles Point; son James E. “Jimmy” Allen, II (Teri) of Longs, SC; grandchildren, Eddie McAllister (Danielle) of Warsaw, and Jacqueline Allen Strange (Jeff) of Chesapeake; four great grandchildren, Madison and Joshua McAllister, and Ellie and Meredith Strange; sister, Ethyl Brown of Flatwoods, KY and brother, Lloyd McKenney of Callao.
Mrs. Allen, retired Post Master, was an active and loved member of the Coles Point community and Coles Point United Methodist Church. Helen and James operated several general stores and she helped him with his crabbing and oyster business. She loved helping others and keeping fresh flowers in her church.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Coles Point United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Carmel United Methodist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel.
