Mrs. Josephine Friedman Atwater, 88, of Tappahannock, VA, formerly of Glen Rock, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2015. "Jo" or "Josie", as she was known to family members and friends, was an avid quilt maker and she made many beautiful quilts for her children and other family members. From 1985 to 2005, while residing in Glen Rock, PA, Jo was a dedicated volunteer at the Lutheran Nursing Home and the public library in Shrewsbury, PA. She was also an active member of the Jacobus, PA Lioness Club.
Survivors are her husband, Donald E. Atwater; two sons, Andrew W. Atwater (Karen) and Joseph E. Atwater (Linda), all of Westminster, MD; two daughters, Susan J. Payne (Mark ) of Heathsville and Lou Ann McArtor (Mark) of Colonial Beach; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister -in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Atwater of Peoria, IL. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Thelma Gray and Helen Rizzo.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Welch Funeral Home- Marks Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
